Mark McGuinness

Byzantium

Byzantium is a long-term project about our collective human need to find authentic meaning. The work explores two of the universal human questions, ‘Who am I?’ and ‘Why am I here?’.

It is comprised of images and sounds gathered from a number of journeys undertaken in an attempt to reveal a path to travel down, an ongoing search to find a vocation.

The title is taken from the poem Sailing to Byzantium by W.B. Yeats.

Mark McGuinness  is a photographer from Dublin, Ireland. In 2016 he moved back to South Lebanon, a place where he spent a portion of his childhood, and there he produced Dreaming of Figure Eights.
