ALISON NORDSTRÖM

Alison Nordström is an independent scholar, writer and curator based in Cambridge, Massachusetts who specialises in historical and contemporary photographs of all kinds. She was Founding Director and Senior Curator of the Southeast Museum of Photography (Florida, 1991-2002) and Senior Curator of Photographs/Director of Exhibitions at George Eastman House, (New York, 2004-2013). She is the author of over 100 published books and essays on photographic topics and has curated over 100 photographic exhibitions in nine countries. Alison is currently a Museum Associate at Harvard University, a visiting scholar in photography at Lesley University and the photo/video editor for the Journal of Florida Studies. In 2015 and 2016, she was Artistic Director of Fotofestiwal Lodz in Poland; in 2018 she curated Joan Fontcuberta’s Photography: Crisis in History for the Hamburg Photographic Triennial. She is currently working on the exhibition Negative Beauty for FOAM, Amsterdam, and in a long-term project on the rhetoric of American documentary during the Cold War. She holds a PhD in Cultural and Visual Studies.
